Changing Office Parties

At my company, birthday parties used to be so ho-hum. The secretary would step away to get the cake and ice cream. Then a card was passed around and the birthday person got a real surprise.

We would all circle around the conference room to half-sing the happy birthday song, compliment the store-bought cake with sweat on it and it was all over in a half-hour, tops. Well, we got new management that believes in having fun. This meant a half-day of celebrating every birthday for the month and we would have food catered in, play games and just have a nice relaxing time.

Also, they placed a little change in the petty cash for real decorations. Truthfully, I never cared about such a thing but it is a major improvement and I do look forward to going in on these days because I get to be a kid again.

It Makes More Sense

Of course, nobody wants to have to deal with things like the logistics of planning a large funeral when a loved one passes on. We are a big clan, with gran having 43 grandchildren. It was not a shock when she passed; she was 89 after all and hadn’t been in the best health for a while. So, the problem now is that we are having so many people coming in for her services, most of them by plane, that there simply isn’t a way to transport everyone.
